The Royal County of Berkshire Pension Fund is understood to be planning to hedge its longevity risk with derivatives. It is believed to be considering a two-part plan.

The first part will involve executing a longevity swap with a notional value of around £300m to cover existing pensioners. Second, is a longer-term plan to hedge the risk from active and deferred members by implementing a series of forward contracts.
